Recently, when I was short on time and a friend asked me to make a dessert, I turned to one of my tried-and-true recipes from Sunset. These bars are delicious and simple, yet I assert that they are a bit healthier than plain chocolate ship cookies due to the inclusion of whole-wheat flour, oats, and wheat germ. Quick to prepare and delightfully full of flavor, I can’t remember the number of times I have made these in a hurry. I recommend you keep the recipe in your arsenal for similar situations, or when you are simply craving something peanut-buttery and chocolatey. Here’s the recipe: http://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/chocolate-chip-peanut-butter-bars-10000001534881/
See, it’s practically health-food! Ok, maybe not, but the addition of wheat germ to the recipe does add some health benefits. For even more, use dark chocolate chips. 🙂
Finished pan of bars, ready for slicing and savoring. The combination of peanut butter, chocolate chips, and the texture added by the oats is hard to beat.
